Objective: This study was carried out in 2018 to investigate the relationship between religious attitudes and hope and anxiety of death in elderly residents of Kahrizak.
Methods: This study was a descriptive-Analytical which 220 elderly nursing home residents in 2018 were selected through simple sampling. Information were collected by the religious attitudes questionnaire, Templer Death Anxiety questionnaire and Schneider hope questionnaire. SPSS software and Spearman correlation coefficient and partial correlation were used to analyze the data.
Results: The mean of religious attitudes, hope and death anxiety in the elderly were respectively (56/19), (15/71) and (9/89). There were direct and significant correlation between religious attitudes and hope (p<0.05, r=0.15) and between religious attitudes and anxiety of death (p<0.05, r= - 0.15) and there were indirect and significant correlation between hope and anxiety of death (p<0.05, r= - 0.43). There was an indirect and significant correlation between death anxiety and religious attitudes by controlling the variable effect of hope (p<0.05, r= - 0.12)
Conclusion: According to the results of the research, we concluded that for decreasing the anxiety in the elderly, encouraging them to participate in religious rituals such as fasting, prayer, mourning … and also increasing the hope to reduce anxiety against the inseparable problems of life is essential.
