Abstract

Introduction and purpose: Nowadays, the issue of good health status in the fields of physical and psychological aging is getting global attention. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks Pilates training on depression treatment among sedentary retired workmen.
Materials and Methods: This study was a semi-experimental design in which, thirty non-athletic elderly men were included. In a randomized sampling, the subjects were selected among elderly who referred to the Amir Kabir psychiatry center in Kashan and only those elderly with a registered medical record were eligible to be included in this study. Subjects were randomly divided into two equal groups of experimental and control. Level of Depression was measured using the Beck Depression Questionnaire (BDI-S-13). The experimental group received 8 weeks of Pilates training while, the controls received no exercise training. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to check the normal distribution of our data and effectiveness of Pilates training was evaluated using ANOVA with significance level of α=0.05.
Findings: the mean age of sample was age 62.96 ± 2.88. Significant differences were observed in depression score of the experimental group in post-tests (P≤0.001). However, no significant difference was observed in the control group (P≥0.05).
Conclusion: In general, eight weeks Pilates training program improved depression among retired workmen. The Pilates training is suggested as a noninvasive, non-medication and preventive method for the elderly who are suffering from depression.

Abstract

Introduction and purpose: Due to the rapid increase in the senior population, health issue, health & provide comfort and welfare of society & wider finds new dimensions every day. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy Retired adults was conducted on self-efficacy and social adjustment.

Material and Methods: The research method was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design with a control group. Study population included all patients older retired In the summer of 1395 was the organization of retirees.  After the interview and questionnaire implementation of self-efficacy and social adjustment Of the 24 eligible voters agreed to participate in research Randomly divided into two groups (12 experimental and 12 control) Were replaced. acceptance and commitment therapy was administered to the experiment group in eight 90 minutes sessions in  4 weeks period. All participants before and after treatment questionnaires Self-efficacy and social adjustment completed.

Findings: The results of analysis of covariance showed that based on acceptance and commitment therapy Significant effect on self-efficacy (F=10.16, P=0.005)  and social compatibility (F =22.44, P=0.001). It also reduces the subscales of family (F =29.78, P=0.000), physical (F =4.71, P=0.04), emotional (F =14.26, P=0.002), social (F =21.34, P=0.000)  and work (F =42.66, P=0.000).

Conclusion: As a result, based on acceptance and commitment therapy can reduce self-efficacy and social adjustment.

Abstract

TITLE:
Frequency of depression and its related factors in the retireded older referred to the Center for the Retired-Ahwaz-NIOC-2014
 
 
Abstraet
Goal and purpose: World population is aging and depression is one of the most prevalent psychiatric problems in elderly. This study aimed to deiermine prevalence of depression and its relate factors in the Ahwaz NIOC retired members
Method of study:
This study is a cross sectional and correlational study which has been implemented. On366 retired elderly of Ahvaz NIOC
Twelve invalidated questionnaires and 354 elderly people were studied. The GDS- 11 items questionnaire was used for recognition of 61 depressed cases which selected by Convenient Sampling. A questionnaire designed based on review literature by the present researchers was used to gather information on the related factors.  The data analysed using   chi squared, T test and logestic regression.
Findings: The frequency of depression was 17.2%. A significant relation found between depression and education level (P=0/015), living arrangements (P=0/017), home ownership (P=0/038) and leisure time (P=0/017).
Conclusions:
Paying more attention to low educated, living alone and people who are not the owner of their accommodation may help in preventing depression. Periodic screening for depression can be helpful. Also providing more facilities for the leisure activities of the retired is recommended.
